First built in 1852, the single story Creole cottage known as Epps House once sat on Bayou Boeuf near Holmesville, Avoyelles Parish. After being moved a time or two, it now sits on LSUA's campus as of 1999. Named for the Edwin Epp's family, Epps House actually tells Solomon Northup's story of slavery and freedom. Northup's book, Twelve Years a Slave, as well as exhibits and folk art are a few things Epps House offers anyone wanting to get a peek into Northup's life. Open Thursday-Sunday, Epps House is a great place to visit in Alexandria.
