The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana provides over seven million meals to hungry individuals in 12 parishes. Allen Smith, will be presenting at the Biedenhard Gardens on Saturday, March 23, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m. Tickets start at $35 per person for attending the program, but are also available for $75 which includes an exclusive wine and cheese reception following the presentation. The deadline to reserve your seat is March 19th and all proceeds benefit the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.

This year, Mardi Gras is going "Under the Big Top" as the Monroe-West Monroe area celebrates on February 16th at 6:00 p.m. The Krewe of Janus is hosting the event with a traditional Mardi Gras parade featuring marching units, floats and costumes. Come on out and join in the fun!

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens is hosting Art in the Garden on Thursday, April 26th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. This special outdoor exhibit will feature the works of University of Louisiana-Monroe intermediate and advanced art students. The students created their artwork on site in the Elsong Gardens at the Biedenharn Museum and the exhibit will feature their paintings, sculptures and landscapes. The cost for the event is $5 per person.

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens will play host to "Moonlight in the Garden" on Friday, August 11th, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Featuring the LA Jazz Quartet, the moonlight concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and feature self-guided tours of The Bible Museum, tours of the Coke Museum, as well as shopping for collectibles in the Coke Museum gift store. Sponsored by Monroe Creamery and Monroe Coca-Cola Bottling Co., "Moonlight in the Garden" will give you a great night of jazz, beautiful gardens, and Coke floats.

As a self proclaimed foodie, or at least just someone who loves to eat some good unhealthy cookin', Daq's takes the cake for Monroe...except they don't actually serve any cake! The cheese sticks at this sports bar, almost pub type grill, are without a doubt some of the best I have had in the area (and I was born and raised here!). In addition to having the best cheese sticks, Daq's offers two varieties! The first being the typical mozzarella stick and the second being filled with pieces of perfectly spicy jalepeño and oooey--goooey cheese. Does it get any better?!

Furthermore, this charming restaurant was an excellent vision from the start. Their small building on Forsythe Avenue once stood empty as a vacated Sonic Drive-In. Five years later, the small local owned restaurant continues to thrive. The price may be a little above average for a sports bar & grill to some; however, we aren't talking about the average cheese sticks at Daq's. Try the Southwest Burger for your entree (or wings of course) and dare you swap cheese sticks for fried pickles? You won't regret stopping by this jewel of a local restaurant near the Marie Place and Lexington neighborhoods.

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens will host the impressionistic God in the Garden art exhibit from February 17-19, 2017, in Monroe. Henrietta Milan, the featured artist, will be in the gallery on Saturday, February 18, 2017, from noon to 2:00 p.m. to meet with guests All of Milan's artwork is available for sale with the proceeds benefiting the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.

Featuring excerpts from "Fledermaus," the Louisiana Opera's Mardi Gras celebration will be Friday, February 24, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. The celebration includes great performances by professional performers throughout the U.S., as well as incredible food and drink. Individual tickets are $40 and a table of eight can be purchased for $250 at Fiesta Nutrition at 1211 N. 18th Street in Monroe. Don't miss this exciting night of opera and Mardi Gras celebrations!

Love is in the air as the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens hosts an afternoon of favorite love songs. The concert features two Northeast Louisiana artists; vocalist Naomi Cordill and pianist Jon Baccarini. The special performance takes place on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 3:00 p.m.

The Neville High School, located in Monroe, will host a College and Career Night on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The College and Career Night will provide the most relevant information to help area students and parents explore college and career opportunities. Topics for the evening will include admissions requirements for selective universities, financing post-secondary education and training, and information regarding TOPS.

The Masur Museum, located on Grand Street in Monroe, is currently featuring two special exhibitions from regional artists. Beili Liu's showcase features folk craft traditional art that is delicate, intricate and beautiful. Liu is from the University of Austin, Texas, where she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History. Dean Dablow is the other featured artist who is currently a Professor Emeritus at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Dablow's "Everything is Abstract" is a chronological journey of his many types of media and art forms. The two exhibitions will be on view until March 11, 2017.

The Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade will let the good times roll on February 18, 2017, in Monroe With more than 50 floats and entries, the Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade theme this year is "Around the World with Janus." The event has grown each year since beginning in 1984 and a crowd of nearly 200,000 is expected to join in the fun.

The Krewe of Janus Grand Ball will be held February 4, 2017, at the West Monroe Convention Center. This Mardi Gras celebration is a black tie event and features live music from The Top Cats of New Orleans. Tickets are now on sale for $100 for an individual or $180 per couple.

The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is hosting "Empty Bowls 2017" on January 28, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Empty Bowls 2017 is a family-friendly lunch event featuring signature dishes from more than 10 local restaurants, art displays, games and activities for the kids, and a silent auction. Tickets to the event are $30, which includes a beautiful handcrafted bowl created by local artists, or $15 for the event only. Empty Bowls 2017 will be held at the Ouachita Candy Company Warehouse in downtown Monroe.

Looking for a classy night out on the town? The Cancer Foundation League is hosting "An Evening of Southern Elegance" to raise funds for individuals diagnosed with cancer. This special event is Saturday, January 28th, at the Bayou Desiard Country Club. An Evening of Southern Elegance begins at 7:00 p.m. and features heavy hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and a cash bar, as well as music from "Almost Famous" from Memphis. Tickets are $100 per person.

The 2017 Bayou Desiard Dragon Boat Festival is coming to Monroe on Saturday, May 13th. This community event benefits the Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana, helping the lives of children and families through several needs-based programs. The 2017 Bayou Desiard Dragon Boat Festival will take place on the corner of Loop Road and Forsythe Road with plenty of family-friendly, action-packed competition. The competition is open to businesses, youth organizations, fitness groups, families, friends and individuals.
