An annual event in Ruston, the Louisiana Peach Festival is a family event held the fourth weekend of June. The Louisiana Peach Festival offers several exhibits, contests, cooking contests, car show and parades, and live musical entertainment.

The First Annual Louisiana Peach Festival was held in 1951 and consisted of a peach cookery contest, several athletic tournaments, a "Peachies and Posies" flower show, an art show, and the crowning of the First Queen Dixie Gem and Princess Peach.

The event is held Friday and Saturday and is free for children aged six and under.

The IDEA Place is located on the campus of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. This math and science discovery center offers a variety of exhibits ranging from the Louisiana Tech Planetarium to aquariums to a fascinating outdoor Bayou attraction. The IDEA Place is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and admission is $4 per person.

The Lincoln Parish Museum, located in Ruston, features seven murals as the "Walls That Talk" highlighting moments from Lincoln Parish history as told by voice recordings of parish citizens.

The Lincoln Parish Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was constructed in 1886 for the Milton B. Kidd family. The museum is also known as the Kidd-Davis House.

Admission to the Lincoln Parish Museum is free. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closes for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m.

Ponchatoulas is a full-service restaurant specializing in Cajun and Creole dishes that include crawfish, boudin balls, seafood gumbo, catfish, oysters and shrimp. The restaurant's ambience is reminiscent of the New Orleans' French Quarter and also offers live entertainment and happy hour specials.

Sundown opened in 1975 and is located on E Park Ave in downtown Ruston. They have a large outside patio and often have live bands that start at 9:00 p.m. Sundown also has open mic night every other Tuesday. It is a great place for professionals, families, locals, and visitors alike. Sundown is a downtown hot spot with a laid-back and spacious atmosphere. The Dixie Theatre is located on N Vienna St in Ruston and has a rich history that stretches all the way back to 1928. Built as the Astor Theater, the theater showed silent films and held concerts with tickets that cost as low as ten cents and as high as fifty cents. After being sold multiple times, name changes, a devastating fire in 1933, and surviving the great depression era, the Dixie was renovated and had a re-opening celebration in 2006. Ruston Community Theater has made the Dixie its permanent home and performs four shows every season. With its deep history, the Dixie Theatre is a must see landmark in Ruston.

J.C. Love Field opened in 1971 and is home to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball team. The field is located at the corner of Tech Drive and Alabama. Nicknamed "The Love Shack", the field has a capacity of 3,000 and proves to be a tough venue for opposing teams. The ballpark also has large picnic and viewing areas beyond the outfield wall that are very popular with Tech fans and the infamous "Right Field Rowdies." The baseball games create a great, fun-filled night for students, families, locals, and visitors. Don't forget to wear your Bulldog blue!

The Louisiana Center for the Blind has been offering many different services and programs for 30 years. They are the only facility of it's kind in Northern Louisiana and are well known throughout the nation. They are located in downtown Ruston and offer apartments for students. They strive to help children and adults learn that blindness is not a limit to their potential opportunities. They focus on teaching proper skills that prepare participants to lead "normal, independent, and fulfilling" lives.

Rolling Hills Ministry Thrift Store is a non-profit volunteer organization that is located in Ruston, off of Louisiana Highway 33. This organization collects donated items and sells the items with the proceeds helping to support the Rolling Hills Ministry, which includes weekend lake front ministry and Disaster Relief efforts. The Thrift Store runs entirely through the efforts of their volunteers and donations from the community. This store is a great place to contribute to the community and find good deals!

Lincoln Parish Park is the hub of several opportunities for outdoor entertainment in Ruston. Located off of Louisiana Highway 33, Lincoln Parish Park surrounds the beautiful 30-acre Hoogland Lake and features campsites for both tent camping and recreational vehicles. The lake can be used for boating, fishing and seasonal swimming. The park also features a walking trail around the lake and ten-mile and four-mile biking trails. The recently revitalized Legacy Park is a 25,000 square foot handicap accessible children's playground that is available for hours of fun for younger visitors. Lincoln Parish Park also features several pavilion and picnic areas for rent. With all of its various options for entertainment, Lincoln Parish Park is definitely a highlight of the Ruston area!

Ruston is located in North Louisiana off of Interstate 20 between Monroe and Shreveport. Ruston is home to Louisiana Tech University and prides itself on offering a thriving family oriented and college-town environment. The town is also widely known for its annual Louisiana Peach Festival. Ruston features several locally owned restaurants and shops, historical attractions such as the Louisiana Military Museum, and many outlets for outdoor activities including various parks. Ruston is full of great fun and good food and is truly a great place to call home!

The Louisiana Tech Alumni Association built the Argent Pavilion in the Fall of 2008. The pavilion has been used during Louisiana Tech home games as the site of Louisiana Tech Alumni tailgating. I have enjoyed the alumni tailgating several times. It is a great place to catch up with former classmates and enjoy a brief pre-game reunion. The pavilion is also the best place to watch the Louisiana Tech Band of Pride as they perform during the tailgating pep rally. Other than hosting tailgating fun, the community and the university have also utilized the Argent Pavilion for meetings, recruiting opportunities and other events.

Located directly off of Tech Drive in Ruston, the Joe Aillet Stadium is another highlight of the Louisiana Tech University campus life. The 23,000-seat stadium has been home to Louisiana Tech Bulldog football for over 40 years. On several occasions, I've enjoyed tailgating before the game and cheering the Bulldogs on during games in this very stadium. The Bulldog football games really bring the community members of Ruston together as a family.

As you drive down Tech Drive in Ruston, you can't miss the sight of one of the iconic symbols for Louisiana Tech University, The Thomas Assembly Center. The Thomas Assembly Center is at the heart of Louisiana Tech University and has been home for the Louisiana Tech Bulldog and Lady Techster basketball teams since November 1982. With its capability to seat up to 8,000 fans, the Thomas Assembly Center serves as the center of entertainment for the university. Over the years, my friends and I have enjoyed attending several events at the center including basketball games, volleyball games, banquets, graduations and even concerts.
