Recently, my wife asked me if I had tasted a Boudin King Cake and that her work was going to purchase a couple for the employees to try at lunch. I had responded that I had not, but thought, I love boudin and I love king cake, but together? I don't know about this.

Before I tried it, the expression on my face must have been like the first time my wife asked me to try something she had cooked. I really liked it before she told me I just ate Bambi (deer). I just wasn't aboard with the idea. After trying it, I liked it. It tasted like a McDonald's McGriddle. Sweet yet a little spicy. I understand that the craze has spread from Acadiana to New Orleans, Shreveport, Port Barre and surrounding areas. Local bakeries are selling them faster than they can be produced. Who ever thought of this is a genius. A more substantial King Cake. I give it four stars. I believe you will love it too.

Zydefest. An event created to celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday features many of Acadiana's finest musicians. Slated for Monday, January 19th from 12:00-8:00 pm, acts to perform include Terry & The Bad Boys, Lil Wayne & The Same Ol' Two Step, Geno Delafosse and Chris Ardoin. Admission is free and a great time is guaranteed for all.

Opelousas is a smooth 20 minutes north of Lafayette via I-49. Once the State Capital, the downtown area boasts a lovely town square and many historic buildings. The gardens of Opelousas are lovely any time of year, but spring is the time to catch the azaleas in full, fantastic bloom. The scenery here is amazing with rolling terrain, moss-draped oaks and so many beautiful gardens. Come take a tour!

On September 6, 2014, the Oak Ridge Boys will be performing at Evangeline Downs. Their music spans generations and is one of the most recognizable sounds in music today due to their four-part harmonies and inspirational lyrics. Rooted in gospel and country, it will be great to hear them perform their greatest hit "Elvira" plus many more.

Opelousas is the third oldest city in Louisiana and was established in 1720. The city was known to be a major trading post between New Orleans and Natchitoches in the 18th and 19th centuries. Opelousas also calls itself "the spice capital of the world" with production and sale of seasonings such as Tony Chachere's, Targil, and Savoie's cajun meats. So, cooking those cajun gumbos will be easy in this town! If you are looking for some fun family time, the town hosts The Yambilee Festival In October, The Zydeco Festival in September, several Mardi Gras parades and other fun events throughout the year.
