Located in Farmerville, the Edgewood Plantation is a beautiful bed and breakfast that plays host to a variety of meetings and events. Built in 1902, Edgewood Plantation is a Queen Anne Victorian-style home with beautifully-kept grounds and tall, towering trees. Noted on the National Register of Historic Places, Edgewood Plantation was renovated by Pat and Kay Carroll after it was purchased in 2010 and then opened in 2012. Since then, Edgewood Plantation has hosted nearly 100 weddings and a variety of other events.

Lake D'Arbonne is one of the area's premiere lakes conveniently located in Farmerville; just a short drive from surrounding cities such as Ruston and West Monroe. This gorgeous lake features a wide array of family friendly activities such as a public boat ramp, fishing areas with a pier at the spillway, a golf course with a country club, and a newly constructed beach area with super cute and colorful cabins nearby for rent. There is even a church with parking for boats!

The spillway area is a personal favorite of mine. I love to load my dogs into the SUV, take a drive through the serene back roads with the windows down, and then ease down the steep boat ramp for parking. The sandy shore with its large rocks, random sticks, and occasional debris is the perfect place to enjoy seclusion and the relaxing stillness of the water with man's best friend off the leash. There is never a shortage of loose sticks for a good round of fetch far into the water; sometimes the random debris turns into a good fetch toy too! Since the ramp is poured steeply downhill, this waterfront area with a pier offers a good bit of privacy to unwind and enjoy a vacation just minutes from home.

The D'Arbonne National Wildlife Refuge offers fishing, hunting, wildlife photography and observation along the beautiful Bayou D'Arbonne. Located north of West Monroe in Farmerville, the D'Arbonne National Wildlife Refuge provides a safe habitat for bald eagles, alligators, the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and the obscure Rafinesque's big-eared bat. Nestled among Cypress swamps, D'Arbonne National Wildlife Refuge is home to the national record mayhem tree, a special wetland tree with fruit that creates delicious jelly. Visitors can also enjoy walking trails and an observation tower or access Bayou D'Arbonne from its boat launch.

Memorable sunrises and sunsets are everyday happenings on Lake D'Arbonne. Great fishing awaits you. The lake has yielded record catches of large mouth bass, crappie, catfish and bream. The wide open areas on the lake appeal to pleasure boaters, water skiers and swimmers. A small population of bald eagles returns each year for the winter months. Several small towns featuring festivals and historic sites are just a short drive away, as are your choice of quality golfing opportunities.
