    If you've read many of my insights, you know I'm a big proponent of our local Farmers Market, held twice a year at our Downtown Festival Plaza. This is a time when we get to take advantage of the varieties of fresh, homegrown produce, meats, hot foods and other goods, and at the same time, support our own.

    If you know of someone who would be interested in being a vendor, the 2016 organizational meeting will be held April 5-7 at Festival Plaza, 101 Crockett St., Suite B, at 6 p.m.. Agricultural vendors meet April 5. Vendors providing Homemade Goods meet April 6. Food Trucks and Hot Food Vendors meet April 7. Will keep you posted once 2016 Market Days are finalized!

    This post is regarding an earlier one, when I was excited to announce Keith Sweat's performance this weekend at The Municipal Auditorium. According to The Times, Shreveport's newspaper, the R & B/Soul Singer is ill. Therefore, tomorrow's, Saturday, October 15, performance has been postponed until Saturday of next week, October 22. Hang in there, as he'll definitely be worth the wait. Have a great and safe weekend.

    Today proved to be a great afternoon to brown-bag it with a former colleague in artsy Downtown. I pass the Asian Gardens often with a fleeting thought of how really nice the ambiance is. This up-close and personal breath-taking experience made for an eye-opener about an amazing culture of people that make up the wonderful diversity in our city. The garden represents some 15 countries with its picturesque displays. Incredible statues, benches, sculptures, and other ornaments are imported from each.

    It's a definite must for your list of things to "go, see and do" in this great place that we take pride in calling home. And, it's "free."

She remains a dynamic performer! Before last night, I last saw her here in Shreveport in 2013 and that lady is truly incredible and I was definitely inspired to chase my dreams even more! Wow!

    Ark La Tex Sports Museum of Champions is a great exhibit that is located in the lobby of the Shreveport Convention Center. It is open on weekends when there is an event at the convention center. The exhibit pays homage to each of the 110 athletes recognized from the area - it is, indeed, amazing.

    Fall Farmers Market
    I know it's early in the week but want to ask you to please plan to support our local farmers during our Fall Farmers Market located downtown at Festival Plaza. It is up and running every Saturday until November 21. There are also vendors that prepare meals on sight, so plan on enjoying breakfast and/or lunch from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. There's a wide variety of fall crops like greens (my very favorite), which you can cook immediately or blanch and freeze them until, whenever. There are always sweet potatoes, amazing canned goods, homemade soaps and candles and other standards.

    Shreveport's Farmers Market
    This fall's Farmers Market kicks off in just a few days, October 24, and runs through November 21, from 8 a.m.-noon. If you've attended before, or never attended, knowing or thinking public parking would be a nightmare that is no longer the case, as in previous years. Street meters are free on Saturdays. There's also parking behind Riverview Hall, and on Festival Plaza's lower level next to SciPort Discovery Center. Commerce Street will accommodate patrons requiring handicapped parking, or the lot at Overlook near the pavilion. For the first time this year, there is a shuttle service that runs between Shreveport Farmers' Market and the Shreveport Artists' Market next door in the Red River District which is located under the Texas Street Bridge, next to the Eldorado Casino's parking garage. I encourage you to come out and support our local farmers, while picking up some great fresh produce.
