    Today, July 28, means, among other things, there are only 17 days remaining until the first day of school. In preparation, consider the savings you can take advantage of on back-to-school supplies, clothing, shoes, etc. during our state annual sales tax holiday on Friday, August 5, and Saturday, August 6.

    This holiday offers exemption from Louisiana's state sales tax on the first $2,500 of the total price of most individual items purchased for tangible personal property and/or for non-business use. Any amount in excess of the maximum with be susceptible to the 4% tax fee.

    The newest addition within the Caddo Parish School District for the 2016-17 school year is the addition of the ninth grade component to Magnolia School of Excellence. The tuition-free public charter school is located at 2250 Clyde Fant Parkway.

    Parents and students are encouraged to get a jump start on the school year by attending "Jump Start" at the school, Thursday-Saturday, July 28th from 9:00 a.m-1:00 p.m., July 29 from noon-3:00 p.m. and July 30th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Bring cash or credit cards to complete such tasks as: pay school fees, purchase spirit shirts and other spirit items, medications intake, PTC/Volunteer sign-up, and registration for Before and After Care.
