One of the most beautiful antebellum houses in New Orleans, this house was built in 1956 for Henry Buckner, who made his fortune in cotton. This magnificent Garden District mansion boasts galleries on three sides, 48 Ionic and Corinthian fluted columns made of cypress, three ballrooms, and a cast iron fence with an unusual and intricate honeysuckle design. The house was sold in 1923 and converted into the prestigious Soule Business School, where countless New Orleanians received accounting and other business degrees, including, my father-in-law, until it closed down in 1983. It is now a private residence. As is the case with many antebellum houses, the Henry Buckner Mansion is believed to have a resident ghost.
