Travel back in time at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, the oldest bar in the country! But this isn't your ordinary haunt: Lafitte's is heralded as one of the coolest watering holes around and featured on countless "Best Bars" lists including Time Out and Maxim magazine. While there's some debate as to whether it really was the first establishment to sling drinks, we do know that the structure was built back in 1722. Upon opening, the bar was owned and operated by the famous Pirate Jean Lafitte, where it would function as a blacksmith shop by day and smuggling operation by night.

Today, tourists are lured to Lafitte's for the history and haunted tales yore, while locals come for the infamous Purple Drink (also known as the Voodoo Daiquiri). It's a great place to hang out during the day with the doors always open, but the charm and mystery really come alive once the sun sets, when the bar is lit only by candlelight and the piano man plays in the background.

The 34th Annual French Quarter Festival presented by Chevron is April 6-9, 2017. The largest showcase of Louisiana music in the world will bring more than 1,700 world-class, local musicians; food from the city's favorite restaurants at the 'The World's Largest Jazz Brunch'; and four days of fascinating special events like: Let Them Talk, Conversations on Louisiana Music, Whitney Bank Film Fest at French Quarter Fest with Cinema on the Bayou, Pirates Alley Juried Art Show, free dance lessons, Opera at Dusk, the Chevron Children's Headquarters and STEAM Zone.

There will be live, local music on 23 stages. Festival Debuts include Aaron Neville and over 40 artists.

I love N, Rampart Street because it is has it all! This street epitomizes local! N Rampart St is one of 4 boundaries of the French Quarter. Like all border streets, its charm lies in the crossover of identities. It is beholden to its namesake but the location fuses the end of one personality and the beginning of another!

One side of N. Rampart Street is on the French Quarter side and the other is on the Treme side! In the middle runs the newly constructed Streetcar Line! Let's take a ride starting at Canal Street and N. Rampart, heading towards Esplanade one will see The New Orleans Athletic Club on the right. It's unlike any other athletic club I have ever been in as it opened in 1872. What other club has a ballroom for yoga and classes, a bar, barber shop, pool, state-of-the-art work out equipment and can boast that Tennessee Williams was a member once upon a time?

Across from the club on the Treme side of N Rampart is the Saenger Theater which hosts A list acts! Continue strolling down to 732 N Rampart Street and on the corner of N Rampart St and Orleans is Mary's Ace Hardware Store. The second floor has a beautiful selection of items for the gourmet chef! My dog loves going there because they always give him a treat!
On the other side of the street across from Mary's is the famous Louis Armstrong Park and Congo Square. When the weather is nice there are usually free concerts in the park on Thursday nights. Sundays one will hear the distant sound of African drumming.

Continuing on down N Rampart is a place called Arrow Cafe at 628 N Rampart St. It offers an upbeat vibe, great coffee and a very sweet owner. Moving along, there is a fantastic place for dinner or brunch at Meaux Bar on the corner of N Rampart St and St Philip. Other venue's you won't want to miss are Black Penny - a local watering hole; Voodoo Lounge that's open 24 hours; Mr. Gregory's Cafe, Dreamy Weenies (hot dogs) and local TV Station, for Channel 4 WWLTv . Right next door is a new champagne bar called Effervescence at 1036 N. Rampart St.that just opened up March 2017! Across the Street is a Tattoo Parlor and next to that is the French Quarter Suites Hotel.

Go pick up some food for your pooch at Dr Mike's (vet) and then head over to the Carmelite Convent (1877) which was recently bought by a local developer and is now used for weddings and events. Across the street on the Treme side is the beautiful New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation. When you get to the corner of Esplanade and N Rampart St, you are at the end of the French Quarter side of N Rampart. Too the right, walk onto Esplanade Avenue, which is the next border Street of the French Quarter heading towards the river or go to the other side of Esplanade and you will be in The Faubourg Marigny!

The annual Krewe of Barkus parade is always a fun way to celebrate Mardi Gras. This Krewe is a nonprofit organization which supports all things dog! If you're a fan of costumes and pups, be sure not to miss this parade. Always a good time!

The French Quarter is probably my favorite place in the Crescent City. You can find anything you want in "The Quarter." In the mood for good music? Go to The Quarter. Want some of the best food on earth? Go to The Quarter. Window shopping? The Quarter. Sight-seeing? Haunted tours? A refreshing drink to get away from the heat? You got it...it's all in the French Quarter.

Woldenberg Park is located in the French Quarter area along the Mississippi River. A number of festivals and events are held here during the year. This is a nice spot to people watch and see what is going on with the Mississippi River.

The Cornstalk Hotel is located in the heart of the French Quarter. It's a Boutique Hotel filled with Victorian charm. The original owner, Judge Francois Xavier Martin, was Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court. The metal 'cornstalk' fence was installed in 1840.

Royal Carriages offers visitors and locals carriage tours throughout the French Quarter and city. A great way to see and learn about New Orleans. Carriages are available at 700 block of Decatur Street and Jackson Square.

The Steamboat Natchez is the steamboat in New Orleans. Board the steamboat and set sail for a two hour jazz cruise. This leisurely outing offers nice views of downtown, the French Quarter and the Algiers area.

The Rib Room Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant inside a beautiful hotel. The food is always delicious, the service is outstanding and I am never disappointed here. Give them a try!

The Beauregard Keyes House and Garden Museum is located in the historic French Quarter opposite the old Ursuline Convent on Chartres Street. The museum highlights the past residents including Confederate General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard and Frances Parkinson Keyes, an American author. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bourbon Street (Rue des Bourbon) is one of the most popular attractions for visitors. A variety of businesses are located along this 13 block street. Antique stores, hotels, restaurants, bars, strip clubs and souvenir shops are just some to call Bourbon Street home. When I want to "people watch", Bourbon Street is the place I head to. Always a fun and interesting time.

Café Du Monde is well known around the world for their beignets. A beignet is a fried piece of dough which is square in shape. After the dough is fried, it is then covered in powdered sugar. Each serving includes three. Going to Café Du Monde is a real treat and I try to get there as often as I can. Their coffee and beignets are delicious!
