    Deepwoods Estates Subdivision
Deepwoods Estates is located in southwest Lake Charles off of Nelson Road and Ham Reid Road. It has been developed out of a piece of farmland owned by the late Ham Reid, who was Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish for many years, following in his father's footsteps.

The Farm was a working ranch that include cattle, crops and near the main house about 160 acres of trees from around the world. It was in this, the highest part of the Farm, that Deepwoods Estates was developed. Ham Reid, Jr and his father before him, Ham Reid, Sr, were both amateur arborists. They had imported trees from all over the world. The area featured live oaks, red oaks, water oaks, fir, cypress, camellias, gum, and other hardwoods.

Deepwoods Estate consists of six streets, three of which are off Nelson Road. One of those streets branches off into a fourth street. The other two streets are off Ham Reid Road. The lots are all in the 100 foot to 135 foot frontage range and most are about 130 to 150 feet deep. The homes have been custom built for the individual owners and currently are in the $250,000 to $500,000 price range. Deepwoods Estates is unusual because most of the homes are under 20 years old, but because of the older trees in the area it looks like a more mature subdivision.
