After church this morning, I decided to take a leisurely drive to North Caddo Parish's quaint village of Ida, near the Arkansas State line, after a friend encouraged me to venture there in search of some regional, medicinal honey. I learned from Larry, the entrepreneur, that the most healthful benefits are derived from honey that is produced from local bee hives. The seasonal Shreveport Farmer's Market is no longer open and I've been schooled on the health benefits of honey that is locally produced when the market is closed.

The drive was really good and picturesque, given the I-49 Interstate route from North Market in Shreveport. Upon arrival, I met Larry, locally known as Ida's Bee Man, who reaffirmed that he lives in Ida and raises honey bees there. He said he's been doing this for five years "or so" along with bee removals. If honey bees are a problem in your house, garage or barn and you want them gone he said he'll come and get them and give them a good home. He can do this only between April and October. Larry reaffirmed that he sells raw, unheated (non pasteurized) honey, promising that it is the best around. In the non-probable event you have difficulty locating him, he's prominently located a quarter mile east of Highway 71 on East Magnolia (Rodessa-Ida Road).
