Beautiful Sunflowers galore. The country air/atmosphere were refreshingly familiar of days gone by. I returned to city life feeling refreshed and stuffed and am already anticipating next year. Hat's off to the planning committee.

I had a great weekend back home. Make plans to attend every year as I grew up just north of Gilliam in Hosston, LA. This past weekend was amazing. Traditional to June in Louisiana, it was hot but the trail ride was beautiful. The meat pies came in first place.

In the town of Gilliam, local farmers grow a variety of crops including cotton, corn, soybeans, sweet potatoes, sunflowers and more. The height and beauty of the sunflowers attracted so many visitors the town decided to create a festival in honor of their sunflowers.

"Each year the festival brings visitors from across the state and neighboring regions," said Evelyn Cassell, Sunflower Trail and Festival volunteer. These people tour the fields of sunflowers while enjoying the live entertainment and hands-on activities for children and families.

Tomorrow, back to the grind-stone, but the weekend diversion was well worth it.
