    Old Covington
Before the Louisiana Purchase, Jacques Dreux took possession of the land where Covington eventually developed. In 1800, it was called the Barrio of Buck Falia. Dreux called the town St. Jacques (or James.) When John Wharton Collins acquired the land in 1813, it was renamed Town of Wharton. Formally incorporated in 1816, it became Covington. Some say the name honors Kentucky Blue Grass whiskey from Covington. Another tradition is that it's named for General Leonard W. Covington, who died in the War of 1812 and was closely connected with Louisiana's first governor, William C. C. Claiborne.
  • Any day is a good day to discover Old Covington. The heart of this "Three Rivers" area is the historic old downtown center that continues to thrive with renovated businesses. Although some of the businesses may be "new," they keep close to the authenticity of Old Covington. There are coffee shops, restaurants, bars, art galleries and an assortment of retail shops... inviting memorable excursions. Take the time, make the stops and soak up the culture. Visitors are charmed by the beloved, preserved old architecture and southern hospitality.
  • Braswell Drugs is one of the few independently owned pharmacies in Covington. It was established December 28, 1981 by Jerry and Wanda Braswell. The Braswell's built a new building next door to the existing one and moved in October 1, 2014.

This building has all the charm of downtown Covington with an old brick exterior, wooden windows and ceilings, and reclaimed lamp posts inside to disguise structural beams. I do a lot of my gift shopping here! Find baby gifts, LSU & Saints items, teachers gifts, balloons, Christmas ornaments, and of course, typical drugstore necessities!
