I have been a resident of Baton Rouge for over a decade and can attest to the fact that it is a great place to raise a family. My family enjoys the opportunities for outdoor activities, in particular nice parks, the downtown area and LSU lakes. Being nestled between Cajun Country and New Orleans and located right off of I-10, make extended entertainment areas a hop and a skip away.

I recently worked as a Retirement Sales Counselor and had the privilege of working with many wonderful people considering Baton Rouge as their retirement destination. Many were longtime residents of the area and others were looking to locate near loved ones. Many of the same attributes that make Baton Rouge attractive to families also make it attractive to retirees. Winters are usually mild, the city has easy access to travel with its own airport and the New Orleans airport is a short drive away, and the housing market has remained strong. All in all, making Baton Rouge a great place for families and retirees alike.

Not only is it amazing to live in a city with its own zoo, but when that zoo puts on events like this, it's amazing - in all capital letters! The event this year takes place on October 2, 2015 from 6-10 pm. Friends of Baton Rouge host this super fun event which was so popular last year, they brought it back for a second time! Guests 21 years and older are invited for a night of beer, food, music, and more. You can sample craft beers and munch on delicious pub food while listening to the sounds of With Without. The event is rain or shine so come prepared and ready for a roaring good time! (Ok, sorry about that. Too corny, but I couldn't help myself)

This is the time of year that residents of Baton Rouge wait for and it's finally here! Come out and celebrate our Tigers! GEAUX LSU!
  • I don't know about you, but my husband and I love, love, love dinner and a movie on our date nights. Put those two things together in one room, and it's the perfect night! I am so excited that Movie Tavern is coming to Baton Rouge and is opening soon! This awesome movie and dining experience opens August 18th! You'll find not only the newest movies but delicious food and drink! The menu looks amazing and has everything from appetizers to burgers to pizzas - even shrimp and grits! The company will open a 3,200 square foot, stand-alone sometime during the fall of 2015. It will be located in the Acadian Village Shopping Center off Interstate 10, near Perkins Road Acadian Thruway. It will be in good company with Trader Joe's, Nadeau, Petsmart, Acme Oyster House, Galatoire's Bistro, and more!
  • Health is at the forefront of many of our minds these days. Katie Green opened her doors in the YMCA Plaza recently and has been helping so many people in the Baton Rouge area. Katie is a board certified Holistic Healthcare Practitioner and Neuromuscular Therapist. She specializes in rehabilitation and restoring function through corrective exercise and postural alignment, neuromuscular therapy, nutrition education, and sports specific aid. I just started going and had my first consultation today. When she said the words, "I can fix you", I almost cried! I can't wait to see what magic she can work on me!

The Rum House of New Orleans adds a brand new location in Baton Rouge, off Perkins Road! I was extremely impressed when I took my family, including my babies, because of the atmosphere first, then the delicious food! The menu wowed us and included some great happy hour specials too! I ate the Creole Rib Taco and I'm already making plans to go get another, but their taco selection is so large that there are plenty of other choices to try as well! There was plenty of outside seating which I love when the weather is so wonderful and you can even swing at the bar while enjoying a drink. I loved the Rum House and know you will too!
